Anaesthesia Nurse Certification
The Periop Concepts Safe Anaesthesia Nurse Certification is based on ANZCA's PS08 Professional Standards on the Assistant to the Anaesthetist and the 2023 Professional Standards for Perioperative Nurses according to ACORN and ACPAN. The Periop Concepts Program is endorsed by the Australian College of Nursing, The Australasian College of Perianaesthesia Nurses and the Australian Society of Anaesthetists.
If you are a Periop Concepts member, have 12 months of nursing experience in anaesthesia, and have completed the first 13 modules of our program, you are eligible to apply for certification. Knowledge
Your knowledge is demonstrated by completion of the Anaesthetic Assistant Starter Course, and Modules 1-13 of the Advanced Anaesthesia Live Series.
Experience
Your employer has confirmed that you have worked as an enrolled or registered nurse in anaesthesia for a minimum of 12 months full-time equivalent in the last 24 months.Â
Safety
Clinical competence is confirmed by an approved employer representative and a FANZCA anaesthetist who has worked with the applicant for a minimum of 6 months.
Minimum Requirements:
- A current Periop Concepts Premium or Nurse Education Program Member for > 6 months
- Current AHPRA or NCNZ registration
- Enrolled or Registered nurse with a minimum of 12 months full-time equivalent experience in anaesthesia nursing in the last 24 months.
- Evidence via the Currency of Experience Employment Statement.
- Has completed the following modules of the Periop Concepts Program
- The Anaesthetic Assistant Starter Course (all modules and assessments)
- Live Series 3 - 13 (Including lessons, PDF summaries and assessments)
- A Statement of Competency signed by an Approved Employer Representative:
- Anaesthetic Clinical Nurse Educator, Anaesthetic Nursing Unit Manager, Perianaesthesia Clinical Nurse Consultant or a Nurse Practitioner working within anaesthesia.
- A Statement of Competency signed by an ANZCA trained anaesthetist with at least 6 months of experience working with the applicant.
